Belmar is a quaint little town with more B&B's than hotels, the boardwalk is mostly open, very few businesses on it, a couple of bars and restaurants, but mostly residential. Seaside is more...commercial I guess? The full on boardwalk with games (complete with the dude on the mike yelling at you as you walk by), rides, hotels, bars, and (at least it used to be) 30 minute waits for the bathroom - not too convenient when you're in a tournament : p Pretty much the polar opposite of Belmar.
It didn't come as a big surprise that they moved it this year, it almost didn't happen last year according to the owner of the B&B I usually stay at. Driving in for the tournament was an experience - unless you get there really early. I've had friends drive around for over an hour looking for parking when arriving later in the day. So I guess from a resident point of view, it probably was a nightmare weekend.
I think lodging will be a lot easier to find since Seaside has a ton of hotel/motels. But even that is different, I had to send a money order deposit for half the total, and have myself and the others in the room sign a lease and mail it back. One place I looked at required renters to wear wristbands at all times and guests had to pay to come on the property...and it didn't look like Club Med to me : p
I'm sure it will be a good time, there's not much better than AVP weekend at the Jersey Shore!
