ps, about 2's. for me it can be tough hitting the open spot? i mean this is what happens: i look for the open and it's open but when i actually spike the ball it's covered. so what did i miss? email dex2330@aim.com thank you
You get a lot of the power on a hit from the speed of the swing of your arm. This is coming from shoulder muscles and how much you crunch your abs when you swing - it also depends on where you are contacting the ball.

If you work your abs a lot - and make sure you use them on your approach you can provide a little extra snap on the ball. This makes your swing a bit faster making the ball hit a little harder.

As for 'hurting' a blockers hands. It's all about where you hit them. You can rocket a ball at thier hands - and if it hits the heals of thier palms it will never hurt. Good places to aim are - jumping hiegher than them and hitting; thumbs, pinkies (this causes jams) or swiping it across thier hands, or hitting it through thier hands into thier head.

Normally you can get one of these in before they wise up on thier blocking.
