ps, serve it to the weakest link? that's all fine and dandy tim, what if you're playing 2's team and they are both at the same level??? hubby/wife serve won't work. so where serve the ball now? i guess just alternate between partners? don't bitch about people not calling themselves? i will complain! it sucks when it's not fair. i think they wouldn't like if you started not calling yourself???
I think what he IS saying with "when in doubt, play it out" is that if there is any doubt that the ball will be OUT, then make the play; don't take the chance of letting it drop in.

In regards to serving, if there is really no 'weaker passer' on the team I would suggest moving the ball around the court. Simply alternating opponents to serve to becomes a little predictable, and the defense will adapt. Move the ball around the court more, serve down the line, SHORT to the middle, blast one right between them. Change speeds and serve types, keep them off balance, make them move; don't serve right at them. Keep them guesssing as to which type of serve is coming and where it will be. Most importantly in 2's keep those serves IN!!! It may be nice to have a hard, difficult to return serve, but if 50% of those sail out, then it's not very effective. Make it so that if your opponent wants to win, they have to make the plays. Don't hand the game to them.
