To lessen the impact on your knees. Use the Quad machines to strengthen your Hamstrings and Upper Quad. Your very tall so this puts more impact on your longer bones. Without thick muscles in your legs to support them you may hurt yourself and I do not think the idea of you blowing out your ACL down there would be any more help. You might break your bone very easily.
I am very interested to here the review from you on the braces. Good luck with them. I may order them in the future myself.
