In my experience officiating city league volleyball there are a few who still use the sideout scoring method. If this is the case in your area then the ruling was correct. Even though the third game is rally scoring, there is no 'Let Rule' in sideout scoring. The set format does not dictate the let rule or not. Only if the whole match is rally scoring does the let rule apply.
