Anyone else... - 04-10-2007, 10:25 AM

Anyone else purposely try to hit the net on a serve? I do it all the time. My personal best is 3 in a row with the 4th missing by an inch or less. Nothing better than seeing everyone play deep on serve receive, have the ball hit the net, then they dive... only to fall way short.

Funny story....

@ this one rec league I play in (I was led to beleive that it was going to be a competative league... then I felt bad about dropping out, so I go and have a good time) I usually serve a hard floater or if someone pissed me off a little a big topspinner. It was late and I decided to slow float it.... it hit the tape and hit the setter on the head (he was facing the receivers). After a good gufaw and a challenge that I couldn't do that again, well... I did it again! Right on the noggin! I tempted fate and went for a third try and fell a little short on the tape.

A volley moment I won't ever forget.

That's funny alright...

Like how I always tell people to pay attention to the server, well this one setter has got his back to the server. He was leaned over and also looking at the recievers. First serve hits tape and bops him on the head. He doesn't learn his lesson. Second serve goes under the net and implants it in his behind. Still he doesn't learn his lesson. Team is serving, now he faces his opponents. His own teammates beams him from behind.

When I'm setting and my team is serving I always face the opponet, with my back to my team. When we're receiving I stand more on the right side of the court, and face to my left. (we play 4-2) I've watched and been told by several people that I should really stand with my back to the oppenent during a receive because I can see what my whole team is doing, plus it benefits my footwork.

Any thoughts?

Uhmmm What I learned in a clinic, is to always know where the ball is and where it's coming from. So, If you watch the serve, you know which of your passers is going to take the ball. Then you can watch how they receive the ball and know where it is going to be passed too and then have an easier time of putting up a good set because you can get into the best position faster.
