Changing hand signals - 08-13-2008, 11:25 AM

Last summer I was playing 2 man outdoor, and I was at the net blocking, with my partner getting ready to serve. The hand signal I called was 1 (line) on my left hand and 2 (angle) on my right. I heard him say "change right". I had no idea what he was talking about. After the rally, he explained that he wanted me to change the call on my right hand to 1. This summer I saw another guy doing the same thing. Is this a new thing?

Sometimes it's better to block line on the right side, cuz the other guy is pretty good at defense on power alley. - gives the better option of a transition play. Same reason they would ask for an angle block on left side.

Ya Maybe your partner didn't feel like playing defense at all and he knew that the hitter on the right side was only hitting line and knew that you would block him. LOL hey it's happened.

Of course it's not new. Blocking one side line and the other cross is common and allows for you to each have your "half of the court" but it's not necessarily the way you should be playing. You can signal line & cross for a reason and it is possible to have any combination. Some may just cause you to get a little more winded than others.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
