Help on the Overlap rule please.. - 11-21-2005, 01:49 PM

Hello,

I think I'm beginning to understand the concept of a 5 -1 offense and I'm using the overlap rule as a basis to explain it to my team, but I would like to be clear on few things..

In the starting rotation of

4 3 2

5 6 1

Does a back row player have to be behind just their direct front row player and vice versa, (ie.. 6 must be behind 3 and 3 must be in front of 6) or all the front row players?

The lines (not the dots) represent who you can not overlap...

4---3---2
|....|....|
5---6---1

So 5 has to worry about 4 and 6, not 3 or even 2 so stacks like this..

4...2........
.............1
..3.....5....
...........6.

are used if 3 and 5 are your best passers and to confuse the other team as who is in the front row.
