Since I have been playing libero I have always needed ways to try to get one step infront of the other teams offense. Much to much I see setters only giving hand signals to one player on the team. Often they have to think about what they are doing and I can see the light bulb go on in thier head. When the setter only signals to one person, I am able to tell my blockers and the defense where to set up before the serve is even recieved. If you are a setter and use hand signals (which you should) make sure to give them to two or more of your players... or else you will get dug!

I have heard (litterally) of teams using code words as plays (we had on called the double-cheeseburger. It was a stack in the middle a shoot to the outside and back-row out of the weekside spot. The ball goes to the backrow and they should have no block and be able to rip the ball down the line. Usually the backrow defense as already pinched in for the middle attack and shifted over to cover the OH shoot. Back to my point... Being a libero I would like the other teams to use code words because my blockers can hear what they are saying and then can key in on where to set up thier base for an easy block.
