What was the best tournament you ever played in? - 09-20-2006, 10:56 PM

I'll start this one off. I think it had to be the first time I played Estero Beach in Ensenada Mexico. This was a weighted draw men's and women's 2's tourney. 3000 players that year over 3 days.
I walked on to the sandbar that held 110 nets and was in heaven. I met some cool people and played my heart out. We never got out of pool play, but the experience made me go back for years.
It has now dwindled to about 1000 players over 3 days, but for someone who has never been, it is awesome to visit Ensenada, do the nightlife, party, and play volleyball.(The nets are now set up on the old parking lot since a hurricane washed away the sandbar)

I'd love to get up to Aspen for the "Motherlode" sand and grass volleyball weekend some year.

Playing til I die,
Outta Town

I played my first men's sixes Yankee tournament last season. It was great to play what I had considered 'real' volleyball (don't take that out of context... you need to know me to understand that definition). We really battled each game and managed to break pool. Our setter got hurt and could barely walk and we lost in the semis.

It was the day I said... wow, I realy want to do this more!

Nationals 2005 at Kansas City, MO

Then,

Nationals 2006 at Salt Lake City, UT (even with my injury)

Best times I've had at tournaments, so much volleyball around it was awesome.

Motherlode in Aspen and King of the Mountain in Vail are both great events. They are fun because you have big crowds, nice setting and some good competition, especially in the sand, where you can play against national team members and AVP players. So many other tourneys through the years, it is almost hard to remember. Some of the bigger CBVA's in California are fun, mostly for the good competition and being on the beach. I remember old AVP qualifier tournaments, in Atlantic City. Some of the JSVBA events in the early 90's and Sports Action a little later on were big venues. The old Cuervo's were lots of fun. Going way back to indoors - JO's as a kid, regionals at RIT and nationals in college, as well as some of the regional tourneys were a blast. Best one, however, is probably going to be biased to a recent victory.

Cuervo, probably 1990 at Bradford Beach in Milwaukee. This was the first major tournament I'd ever played in. Wasn't even old enough to drink, but the players tent was flowing with free booze. I seem to remember doing passably well, but honestly, by the end of the day I was having trouble remembering much of anything.

Personally I hate tournaments. Most beach tourneys take way too long to start playoffs after pool play is done. Why spend $25-50 to play in a tournament and have to sit for a few hours in the middle, when I can split the cost of a rental court and pay $5-10 for the day and get a lot more games in.

If there is a tournament that I DO enjoy playing in, it's the Luau held by Chuck and Rod. Since moving to the city, I don't see the people I started off playing ball with anymore. The luau is the one place in which I can. It's a huge grass tourney held in a forest preserve. A beer truck pulls up around 9am and starts serving then and food is grilled from 10am on... If I'm gonna have to sit around and wait for playoffs to start, at least they provide beer and food for me to enjoy! Plus there's usually a huge party that follows...

The 2006-2007 CWF Winter Co-ed League Championship Tournament

We went in as the 3-seed after finishing 18-12. The #6 Flyers shocked us and the entire league to win the whole league tournament.

I wonder how they did in the CWF Champions Tournament.

Today at Bridgewater State College. My team was undefeated all day, and we got some hardware to show for it. We also moved up from Regionals to the Power League. Go Andover Pumas!

I've had great but nothing I could say was the "BEST".

Sad to say, I know. I'm hopeful, who knows could be this summer

There's 2 tourneys that come to mind....winning a B/BB doubles tourney on the beach with my hubby last September at GAV (only our 2nd tournament ever together + and the competition was feirce....we didn't think we'd break pool play let alone win)

And....coming in 2nd with kvb in the BB at VB Bones last Sept.
