Nationals: Rankings and Divisional Structure - 02-24-2008, 05:00 PM

Hey, have any of you looked at the rankings on the NIRSA site?

They have BU ranked 26th and BC only as honorable mention (NU is also only honorable mention).

Also, what division do you guys think we (Yale) should play in? Our enrollment is under 15,000, so we can play in DII. But should we try an play in I-AA?

(I think our nationals coordinator already submitted us as a DII team.)

I really would appreciate some input, especially from some of you have been around a while (Clerc, Layden, etc).

Those rankings are pretty old. I believe they were put out right after the Marty Open, which BU won. I think BC was hurt because they didn't play in it, and seeing the results they probably would have swept it. New rankings should be out soon.

As for Nationals, it's tough to decide where to play. NECVL teams have historically done very well in D1-AA, and NU finished very high in D1 last year. It's tough because I think you guys would do okay, and you'll get to play top universities which we don't often get to do since we're shoved up here in the Northeast. The competition will be better in D1-AA, but you'll most likely do much better in D2 and could sniff a top ten finish if all the pieces come together. Depends what your goals are. In past years teams like Army and BC have stayed in D2 to try and get that elusive National championship, but things didn't come together for them that weekend. Most likely your registration has already been sent and the decision has been made, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents.

Northeastern took 9th at nationals last year and we took 19th, both in D 1. Without having seen you guys play it is difficult to say. URI played in D 1 last year and did not win a game, if I remember correctly. I believe we should be ranked 14th in the Nation right now with BU around 24 - 26, from what I know about the teams ahead of us. D 2 will be boring for the first two days and then very tough on the last day. D 1 will be good competition in either A or AA for all three days. Having played in both I would go D 1, I think you have a better time in general.

Ouch. Tough love for you guys Fairfield, especially considering you've beaten us twice (and we've only beaten you once)!

The reason we (fairfield) are not ranked is because Jung thought we were playing D1 at nationals. So, we will see what happens with the next rankings.
