Medial Ankle Sprain? - 05-03-2007, 08:19 AM

Seriously, Why is it that I have started so many threads related to injuries....

So, After tweaking something on the medial side of my ankle (aka. inside), I finally did something I couldn't ignore. At open play on Monday I went to run for a ball and OWWW. No swelling or discoloration just moderate pain that is now isolated to only certain movements such as walking up or down stairs. Basically any flexion with a slight lateral movement and there it is. Looking online has only resulted in the additional knowledge that medial ankle sprains are uncommon because of the deltoid muscle there being so strong. Great!

Anyone have any suggestions on additional ankle support? I have league tonight and then double tournies this weekend.

With so many physical injuries, you may want to see a chiropractor. A misalignment of your spine could be one reason why certain injuries and pains are occuring.

Sweedo is Sweet! - 05-03-2007, 07:20 PM

When I messed up my ankle last year I wore a Sweedo ankle brace when I played grass 2's and it was awesome. Some people swear by the active ankles, but I preferred the brace - they each have their pros & cons. Of course I did the ritual ortho dude visit, x-rays, I skipped the MRI stuff he suggested cuz it started to get better after a while of working on it. One time when it got kinda bad, ortho dude gave me some kinda steroid prescrip - no wait, that was for my knee from running and playing beach vb too much - lol! I tried to wean myself off the brace for gym floors and didn't use it in sand.

And now for the tougher next part. Whenever I mess up my ankle I work to build it back up again...and this is probably bad advice....but anyway, jog, do the stepper, squats, and those split squats once you're able....all in combo. Really built the ankles back. Stop if it hurts, rest for a day or two, and then repeat. Rotate ankles at night before going to sleep.

I dig it

In case you all are curious... I went out and bought another ankle brace. Di-ck's sporting goods, TruFit, works like an ace bandage from what I can tell, it's supposed to take the place of taping. I tossed that on under the sock and then of course have the active ankle on too. Not too bad, I didn't really press my luck too much but only moderate pain with some movements. Luckily we played the most inexperienced team so winning three games wasn't too trying. I just need to get through the 20th and then I can take some time to heal and rehab hard core. Until then... it's basically double tournaments every weekend.
