Setting issues. Please assist. - 07-25-2007, 10:46 AM

Does anyone have suggestions on how low I should remain with my knees and how to come up cleanly to deliver a proper High Set?

Maybe a 1.2..3 sequence to memorize?

I tend to set really high sometimes well above the net, though taller players enjoy it because then they can smack the ball hard.

Any suggestions appreciated. My back sets are not so hot any suggestions there?

I'm no setter and I've been told I have pork chops for hands but here is a pretty good place to start with "how to set": How to Set a Volleyball | eHow.com

Remember setting a ball is a lot different from being a setter. Being a setter entails knowing your offense and reading your opponents defense and a whole lot more that I hardly know.

I thought that would make him a pig.. Just kidding BhDp- LOVE YOU! LOL

I glanced over the site and it looks like it's the good basics for setting. I would say setting is definitely one of the hardest things to learn in volleyball. I've done a few general volleyball clinic and even a specific setting clinic combined with the fact that I look like a setter and the end result is that I still can't set. Although I was setting some good tens for Nert the other day!

All I'll say is take the basics and practice and don't feel bad if you are still having problems. At the last clinic I went too one of the 'helpers' came up to me and asked me how I set like I do because he wanted to teach his team how to do that. I just looked at him and said "I have no clue." haha.

Just like anything else in volleyball, it's a matter of learning a method that you feel comfortable with and getting enough repetitions at practicing it. When I start screwing up I just remember one thing that's basic for everything in volleyball... get behind the ball and follow through towards your target.

One can only hope that with time and practice comes the ability to perfect.

Thanks for the advise.

Hopefully this evening should be good for playing outdoor.

Have to try West Haven one night also.

don't mean to bash the ehow site but it's written by people who don't really play volleyball.

Quote:
Step Two. Intercept the pass at the net (if it's a good pass). Make contact with the ball about 1 foot over your head.
You should not be in this situation good pass or what not. You should beat the pass and be in a position ready to set.

Quote:
Step Three. Hold your hands above your forehead with your thumbs and index fingers nearly touching, making a diamond shape, with the rest of your fingers spread open.
I would do this before step two. If you're trying to do this after you've already intercepted the ball, it's too late.

Quote:
Step Four. Bend your knees.
I would do this before step three. It's much, much too late to think about bending your knees at this point.

Do ehow's step four, three, two, then, five. Step one is getting to the ready position to set.

like this way:
1) Ready position to set: be under ball preferrably one foot infront of the other, right foot parrallel to net
2) on your toes, knees bent (ehow step four)
3) hands up early, steady with window, elbows bent (ehow step three)
4) contact the ball with finger tips/pads (ehow step two) with trampoline effect, spring back up
5) lean into the direction of the set, shoulders square to target - superhero takeoff (ehow step five)

Me eat meat in team.

NO SAND VB tonight! - 07-26-2007, 01:28 PM

I am playing in Chesire tonight sorry to confuse you...MYCENA ..Lynn?

From 6:30-8:30 tonight and then heading to Springfield to hang with some friends later on. There is a mechanical Bull want to try out.

I will take everything that has been given to me and apply it tonight. I am sure I can acheive better results.

Thank you for your help.
