Can you put your forearms completely together? - 12-04-2006, 11:53 AM

Most of you know that when passing you are basically putting your forearms together to try to make your two arms act as one platform. I've seen people that are able to put thier forearms completely together and some that cannot... It's like thier shoulders are too wide.

So the question is, can you put your forearms completely together while locking your elbows?

you don't want to do that at all. If anything, get your thumbs lined up and wrists together.

forearms together decreases control, makes your upper body compressed and you look like a dork.

I've got fairly broad shoulders and chest for a man my height & weight, but I can get my forearms completely together from wrists to elbows in order to make a passing platform.

Of course, I'd never actually pass a volleyball that way.

As manzi says, get the thumbs & wrists together and your arms should make a pretty ideal passing platform without alot of forcing. If your body or arms are so bulky as to prevent that, maybe you need to look into resolving that before you work on trying to force your forearms together.

Uhm no. And I have been called gumby before. We should do a study on the people who can. Compare shoulder widths, arm lengths, etc...

honestly if you think about it, arms together gives you a platform only the exact width of your two arms together, if you have a regular platform you have better movement (control) and a wider platform with more room for error.

uhh...i dunno bout that whole wider platform thing....you have more surface area to control the ball with and get a touch.

If my elbows are going to be touching, i have limited mobility, don't have the quickness to get them together..

Homework:
Find me a picture of a player getting their elbows together..not wrists..

i was saying with your elbows not touching you have a better platform, elbows together seems dumb
