Cute girls - 03-21-2006, 07:40 PM

I walked into an adult-ed open gym thing when i was 19. met a few people who showed me a few things. But then I realized how many really cute girls played ball, so I would ask for pointers and got better little by little. The cool part was all the dates that I got with the cute girls along the way. Oh by the way, its 15 years later now. Still learning.

Still learning here too : ) I started pretty late in life - really wish I had learned when I was younger...maybe it wasn't invented yet : p I've attended some clinics, read some books, have a few videos but I think I've learned the most by watching better players. I'd love to do more clinics, I just wish they'd have the indoor ones during the winter...once summer hits its beach time!

My ball has pretty much all been self taught. I didn't even know I had good hitting form until I saw a phoo of me taking a swing.

In the past two months, I have learned SO MUCH by playing in yankee tournaments. The higher level the tournament, the better the players are around me. And those players are interested in winning so they normally give me tips. I take those tips and look for information on the internet (e.g. footwork). Then I take what I read and use it in my next tournament or at league night.

I'm really excited because there is a skills clinic coming up in a few weeks and it will be my first formal training.

My to-do list of things to learn are:
  • Back row defense
  • Jump Serving
  • Back Row Attacking
  • Slide Hits

I don't want to have to change my name... Akshully that's part of my back row defense.

That's the exact clip I was looking for that I've seen in one of my favorite videos from youtube. Thanks.

Freshman year of highschool my parents made me play a sport. I tried out for vball, made it, went to a camp, was told by college coaches that I had a lot of potential, and played JO's. The best camp I went to was the Penn State Camp. At the camp I learned how to play better but it was also a confidence booster for me because I was placed on the first court there. (I didn't consider myself a '1st court' type of player) After the Penn State Camp my game went through the roof.

Learned the basics from my sister in eighth grade. Tried out in my freshman year of high school. Made the JVB team with 7 other girls. We were ball grabbers...we didn't really play as much as the other teams. We basically observed the JV...and sometimes Varsity. Then that summer I went to a Volleyball Clinic and improved my game...by a lot. I learned how to serve and hit well. My passing became more accurate, and I learned how to actually set balls. I don't know what I was doing the year before. Haha. I came back the next year and made my varsity team. In my senior year, I ended up being captain, and I was co-player of the year.

I hope to play in college...if I can get over this hyperextension...
