You can always set off a wall. You can hit off the floor and take the rebound off the wall as your next set also. I suppose those are easiest as they require no net or other player to do.

I suppose if you had an open court and a cart full of balls serving would be next.

I think everything after that requires a second person unless you've got one of those fancy aircat machines.

Practice alone - 02-19-2007, 07:05 AM

There is so much conditioning and skill drills you can do on your own. Just randomly toss a ball in the air and use your three hits practicing your ball control, pass, set, and spike to yourself. It is also good conditioning. I am speaking about the beach game of course. Practicing landing shots and serving to spots.

You can always work on your footwork and jumping skills solo. It won't help your timing but it will help your rythm.

It's not a skill but increasing your fitness level is an important part of the game if you're trying to play competatively. (I know it's the only thing that holds me back!) So you can always get in better shape to maximize your court time.

Well when practicing alone you need self motivation...actually you will need alot of that with determination....the skills that are easiest to practice will be setting, passing, hitting, and serving. If you have some type of machine to shoot volleyballs at you then blocking, digging and serve receiving will be easy.

"The Wall" - 02-20-2007, 11:52 PM

My favorite way to warm up is against the wall - throwing the ball against it, setting against the wall, bumping/passing against the wall, hitting, serving, varying setting heights, or doing it w/a basketball, etc. It comes back quick and you get warmed up quickly. I think it really helps your ball control and reaction time too. Peppering is a good alternative, but sometimes can be over-rated...the wall is awesome!!!

I dig it

Pepper against the wall is super difficult. If you can keep it going, I commend you. It's a great way to build up your reaction time since you stand so close. Be ready to get six packed by yourself! A lot of times before games, I'll stand at the net and toss the ball up to myself to hit or place cut shots along the net. If I'm in a gym, I'll practice setting in a basketball hoop to work on placement. To practice speed control and aim on spikes, I'll toss the ball up to myself and spike the ball off the ground and try to make a basket.
