Just got some some new shoes! - 11-29-2005, 12:50 AM

I had a pair of Nike basic VB Shoes for about 2 1/2 seasons and they've worn kinda badly. So I set out to get some new kicks. There's no place local (that I know of) that has a selection of VB specific shoes so I took my chances at catalog shopping. The first pair I selected was some Mizuno Wave Tornado's. Cools shoes w/ great features and although they fit they didn't have the proper volume (tough to explain.... feet fit length & width but still looked like the shoe was narrow). So I ordered some Asics Gel Sensei's which fit absolutely great. In fact they're more comfortable than my street sneakers.

I used Spike Nashbar, even though they cost a few bux more they had stuff in stock and were a breeze to do all the re-ordering/ exchanging with.

The only thing I'm not crazy about w/ my new shoes is they're silver, very silver and I'm not good engough to be flashy.... but I'm old enough that I don't care

What did it finally cost you? I just bought a pair of shoes "Asics / MENS GEL-MONSOON" I'm not very happy and was looking for another pair. I contacted Asics and they are offering a satisfaction guarantee so I'm going to start looking around today.

They were 109.99 plus shipping. There are better deals on shipping than spike nashbar though. I think volley hut for the size order I ended up making would have been 4 bux less to ship.

In a way I'm glad to hear you didn't like the monsoons. I was torn between the two, and I'm real satisfied w/ the sensei's.

How does Asics guarantee work?

Adidas Stabil - 11-30-2005, 09:07 AM

I have heard some good things about the new Asics (silver ones...) but if anyone can get their hands on a pair of Adidas Stabils they would be very satisfied. The Stabil is technically a handball shoe, but I have been playing volleyball in them for about three years and they are the best shoe I have ever worn. These are impossible to get in the US but if you do some searching on the net you can find a few sites: I believe you can order them on EBAY and you go through an argentinian company. If you are planning a trip overseas or to south america, definitely try to pick a pair up. Cost rougly around 100 US dollars.

Asics return policy is great, I called customer service and they offered me replacements or refund if purchased under 60 days. I took the refund supposedly I should have a check in 3 weeks.

The monsoons were not a bad shoe just I felt they were heavy and very thin.

I can't wait to see your shiny new shoes. But seriously do volleyball shoes really do anything special?

Go get some adidas rinning shoes. They hold up well over time and don't weigh you down. I refuse to buy Nike, they fall apart way too quick. Adidas holds up over time and they aren't too expensive

The truth is its all in the gear, when playing volleyball indoors your shoes are like tires on a car bad tires can mean the difference between the car acting as designed when stopping or hitting another car. When it comes to shoes, the differences are a little more subtle but just as important, cushion, ankle support, weight and arch all play factors. For example regular street sneakers can weight up-wards of 3 pounds a shoe totaling 6 pounds of drag you have to account for when moving or jumping. Volleyball Sneakers weight less the 1 pound each.

Others factors are wear and element exposure which cause arch and support failures on street sneakers.

The bottom line is how important are your ankles or better yet do you want to really be on crutches for 6 -12 weeks?

Regarding those adidas stabil shoes...http://www.racquetballwarehouse.com/...ml?PCODE=ASRBS
But i personally use the Mizuno Wave Lightning2's very good shoe very lightweight.
