Outdoors to indoors? - 08-28-2007, 12:32 PM

So, I know I am transitioning from sand play back to indoor (or will be at least in the coming weeks) and am curious what everyone else does to aid the transition?

I know personally transition and play position is going to be something to get used to again from playing doubles. Another thing I see me doing inside is that my approach is about a step early and I'll need to back that off a little bit.

Usually I'll participate in one grass tournament before the indoor season official starts for me... then again, I'll play outside until the last possible moment if I can get others to play, too.

Self reminder, wait on the setting, especially being outside hitter...

Some of the things I keep in mind when moving back indoors:
  1. You can use your hands for ugly serve receives and first ball over.
  2. If someone else touched the ball, it doesn't necessarily mean the next one is yours
  3. Expect a lot more blocking. There are three people at the net all the time.
  4. The court is once again 30x60. A lot more balls are going to drop.
  5. No wind.
  6. No Sun but ceiling lights can still be a pain.
  7. Consider throwing your protective gear back on.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

I think waiting on the set is very important when you crossover form sand to indoor. You move much faster on the hardcourt so it is easy to misjudge your approach at first.
