Players Dating Players - 02-01-2006, 04:24 PM

Here is a a question, what does everyone think of players dating players? I think it's like dating at work, I'm curious what everyone else thinks.

I dunno, if you can make it work, great. but, us volleyers are pretty competitive when it comes to volley which could result in an unhappy sex life? I've always dated swimmers and gymnastics girls, so, easy to bend and supportive of my volley career

There is no problem dating another player, in fact I always think its a great idea. The only problems are if:
  1. The person you are dating is on your team.
  2. The person you are dating is not at the same level as you.
  3. The person you are dating has dated others on your team or league.

Smiles #3 is a good point! From what I have seen a couple playing on the same team is not the best of ideas. But On opposite teams it might help to get out some aggression....

Well I'm in a situation where #'s 1 & 2 apply and contrary to what Mycena thinks we play fine together, just not right next to each other (then we get bickery). My wife of 5 yrs is a better player than I am (I guess... her defense is better than my offense is better than hers [my serve is better though 5+ aces for me tonight]). I'm her biggest fan.

Bottom line is it all comes down to people and the dynamics between them. It would be tough if someone were a team leader and was dating more of a roleplayer and had to come down on them, or if there was a big discrepancy in skill.

AAAUUUWWWHH!! Thanks, Hubby, that is very nice.

Ya, as long as we are not right next to each other on the court, I think it is ok, but if we have at least another person between us, we are ok. Of course, Mycena doesn't ever appriciate being a hubby/wifey sandwich!! Ha ha ha!

I think it depends on the type of person as well. Someone who is an aggresive player, it may not be the smartest idea to play together.

I agree it's definitely comes down to the people involved. I know a few different people who are couple who play, not just the wackies above, and in general it seems that there is frequently higher levels of tension (for the whole team) when couples play on the same team. But Sleepy, you have mentioned this topic a couple of times, are you scoping out some more volleyball ladies??? hahahahaha

Its easier to justify your volleyball playing time if your love plays, too. Otherwise, its all "why do want to go play volleyball instead of spend time with ME?"

Not that its happened to me or anything...

That's exactly why I think being with another player helps. In fact that's the best time wifey and I spend together during the week.
