A learning experience... - 08-07-2006, 11:04 AM

Went out to Hudson Valley Volleyball. Weather was great, people were friendly and the location was nice. I'd definitely do it again.

My play was pretty rough as I hadn't had much time to practice lately so I didn't make it out of pool. Had some good play and I think I know what I was doing wrong so the next tourney should be a better experience.

On a positive note, they had a raffle to benefit St. Jude's Medical center and I won a prize from that.

P.S. The next tournament for Hudson Valley Volleyball is 8/26 & 8/27. If you can make it out there (~90 minutes from Hartford or New York City), I'd recommend it.

We had a good turnout for a desert tournament, 10 open teams in the sand, with most of our state's stronger teams coming out to play. It was a nice, relatively cool weekend and a good tourney over all. The way we run here is an abbreviated pool play for seeding then straight double elim, 25 pt games in the early rounds and losers and full matches later into the winners. My partner and I played well enough to walk away unscathed, victory was ours! A few folks were snapping pics, maybe I can get some up in a few days so folks can see what volleyball in the mountain desert looks like.

Haha I think it's NMSVBteam, as in New Mexico Sand Volleyball team. Otherwise I would never remember it either. He probably didn't have to worry about getting rained out in the desert. Too bad you guys didn't get to play. At least too bad you didn't find out it was cancelled till you got there. EUW!

Hey, if she found out ahead of time that it was cancelled, she wouldn't have gotten to meet me. I think she could have done better things with the long drive though. It did end up pouring in that area though so I think it was good overall that it was cancelled.

Another time, KVB.

Ironically enough, we've been getting tremendous flooding this summer, raining almost every day. Looks a bit more like the Pacific Northwest than the desert. But Saturday was brilliantly sunny. The NM Championships went off without a hitch. We won the tourney and the series, remaining undefeated throughout six events. Sorry to hear about the rainouts every place else.

We got rained out half way through the tournament.

My partner was nasty - we were just having fun though. Got some nice rips off some nasty sets. Had a streak of 8 aces in a row off my jump serve.

Fun tournament!

At the end I was using everything as a slip and slide..
