starting a club team - 02-27-2008, 01:38 PM

Last fall, I started going to the University of New Haven, expecting to play on the team here during my time. During the first semester, I could have done decently on the team, getting mainly back row time, but still enough for a freshman. Later, I realized that I would rather not play for this coach, and quit the team. Volleyball is still a major part of my life and I am still involved in tournaments, but I want to start an adult club team next fall. I have people who are interested, but my main problem is that I do not know how to get involved in these types of tournaments. I am not sure if i have to register with some league or association. Any help or advice for this subject would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think there is any magic to starting a club team other than getting people and money. If you're looking to play in competitive tournaments, you're in the outskirts of the Yankee Region of USAV volleyball and not too far from NERVA. I'm sure others can tell you more about it.

I'd PM NewEnglandRT for more information since he is starting up Random Volleyball Club (RVC) and he can share some of his experiences with you.

If you're looking to start a volleyball club at your school, that's a different story and you may want to approach your student union. I'm sure they have rules and a well documented approval process that can help you.

Starting a club is over rated.....

Joining one is way better! Random Volleyball Club - Connecticut Coed Volleyball

Yeah, so... if you're an adult and want to play organized competative ball Yankee is the way to go.

We run at least one team a month and often more. There are varying levels of play so just about anyone with some decent athletic ability and knowlege of the game can play in the lower levels, all the way through very advanced teams who go to the US Open National Tournament in May.

PM me or email me @ newenglandrt@hotmail.com and we can talk more.

NERT, starting a club or joining one is good information for the whole community? Why not keep it public?

Practice? Summer is doubles season. HVVOLLEYBALL.COM has their schedule up for Beacon. I emailed SCV and I'm waiting for VBLI/Volleyball in the Park to post too.
