Cool Volleyball Terms You Use... - 03-21-2007, 09:55 AM

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what are some terms you guys use in your area for certain things volleyball related.

For example:

six pack is a pretty common volleyball term...

a perfect pass to zone 7... $money$

that perfect set that you can just CRUSH!... nectar

a word that we yell when we crush a nectar set, when we pass $money$ on your best hit, or basically when we make our opponents or the game look easy... AIZAH! ( pronounced like eye-zah )

people that are on the court, but have no skillz... scrubs

The bar after the game... j/k.

Zone 7 refers to the setter's box, between zone 2 & 3.

There's an article posted on VBLI that has some terms...

http://www.vbli.com/forums/index.php?page=ltt

Take a look and add some more...

There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Those are common volleyball terms. I'm referring to more localized words used in your area or group of friends that most likely wouldn't be found in any books.

In High school I served something like 8 jump serves aces against a crappy team and the fans started yelling ace-your-face. (we had a decent sized student fan section and the parents were getting into it as well.)

I have never heard of zone 7 either... and I play libero... but I think it is alright since manzi hasn't heard of it either.

Hmmm... maybe it's a Chicago thing. I've heard other club coaches refer to it as zone 7, too...

I don't know about "zone" 7, but it is considered a seven spot.

-----net--
123456789

positons where you can set - so you can denote to a hitter where the ball will be - the hieght and the position.

so a 11 should be in the one position, one ball hieght above the net - a shoot

a 14 would be same spot four balls high - a normal outside

51 - quick
81 - back quick

etc etc...

as for local words...

peluche is a sixpack - portugeus for "stuff bear" as in, you won a stuffed bear like a carnival prize since hit him so hard

drop bombs - hitting hard and well (usually no block)

passing dimes - money passes setters don't have to move for
