Volleyball Victoria Rating System - 11-09-2005, 02:21 PM

Volleyball Victoria Rating System

(Based on AVPNext http://www.avp.com)
The primary goal of a rating system is to help all outdoor volleyball
players better enjoy the game. This is achieved by providing a method
of classifying skill levels for more compatible matches, group
lessons, league play, tournaments and other programs.
Ratings are categorised by a letter and determine the level of skill
an athlete possesses. Volleyball Victoria recognises the following
ratings:

Unrated
This player has little or no experience playing in tournaments. He/she
is still working primarily on getting the ball into play and needs on-
court experience. This player has obvious weaknesses in controlling
the ball but is familiar with the basic fundamentals of passing,
setting, hitting and serving. More advanced Unrated players are
quickly learning to judge where the ball is going, although court
coverage is weak. This player may also sustain a short rally of slow
pace with other players of the same ability.

B
This player has achieved improved ball control and dependability with
directional control on moderate shots, but still lacks depth and
variety. This player exhibits more aggressive net play, has improved
court coverage, and is developing defensive strategy.

A
This player has begun to master the use of power and shots and is
beginning to handle pace. He/she has sound footwork, can control depth
of shots, and is beginning to vary game plan according to opponents.

AA
This player has developed power and/or consistency as a major weapon.
He/she can vary strategies and styles of play in a competitive
situation and hits dependable shots in a stress situation.

AAA
The AAA player typically has had intensive training for national
tournament competition at the semi-professional level.

These ratings are a good guidline for entering outdoor (specifically beach tournys). Most tournys are run on this same division of skill system with a-bb. This is useful so you dont get completely destroyed the next time you enter a tournament.

I don't think so, they have a whole different rating system this is for Beach and Indoor play not for Collegiate ball.

College is rated by the division, except in the mens's game (Div. I, II, and III teams all play each other). In the womens game the difference in the divisions is clearly visible. There is more parity in the men's game although not every team can aome close to competing with your UCLA, UCLBS, BYU, or pepperdine.
