Volleyball War Story, A disaster on the court! -
11-11-2005, 02:42 PM
About a week ago I filled out a volleyball survey, one of the questions was " Do you ever think "I don't want to get injured because I wouldn't be able to play"?" My insightful answer was "Always but war stories are always better when you hobble on the court." I take it all back!
What you need to know is I'm just getting over a cold and decided to play on my league team with a pounding headache and tired to boot, other then that I was fine, yeah OK! I played the first game with my team and we won by a resounding 2 points, the second game was a great run as well however on a defense of a middle hit from the other side I tried to pancake a ball that clipped the tape, needless to say I got a finger nail on it but rolled my hand under my body. Mind you I've never done this before, pancakes are my favorite saves and I'm damn good at them, but NOT LAST NIGHT. The story continues; at this point the pain was bad and I should have pulled my self out but I didn't. After about ten minutes the pain subsided and another victory was close at hand but just didn't happen.
Game 3, great game! point for point we were being chased and hit for hit we were fighting the good fight, however at about 17-19, again went for a low dig on a spike and jammed my index finger on my hitting hand, crap this one really hurt! I know I should of pulled my self out but people play with injury's all the time right? Well I did, my team mates were completely supportive and helped me tape up my fingers. So the game went to 20-19 , 21-20 and 21-22 (must win by 2pts, Cap 23) and final point was up to me: It was a great set perfect approach, sweet swing wright into the #$@ing net. We lost, or should I say I lost the game.
The moral of the story: Playing when your sick will cost you two injuries, Playing with an injury cost two games, shanking the ball into the net and losing the game, PRICELESS.
Glenn, I feel your pain. I know the feeling your team is playing and all you want to do is play with em. It is priceless and almost always ends up bad...
HA HA HA HA HA. All for the LOVE of the game!!!!!! I picture it like a on-going comedy skit and see him wrapped up like a MUMMY standing on the court swinging at the ball with his crutches.
