Focus! - 09-10-2007, 05:19 PM

Nothing is more important than focusing. Every game, every play, and every movement will be more effective with focus. It will also keep you ready for what the other team will do next. It's all about staying focused.

Visualization - 09-10-2007, 08:02 PM

The best habit is constant visualization of the things that a player would like to do. For example, if s/he wants to spike the ball, visualize the BEST spike you have ever seen. If digging, the same. If serving, think of the best serve you have ever seen.

Many successful players "play" their difficult situations in their mind using the techniques that want to execute in a given situation.

Its Just A Game ! - 09-11-2007, 06:22 AM

The best habit someone can have is to never forget that it is just a game. Dont ever let your frustration and competitiveness cause you to not have fun. None of us are professionals and we all do this for enjoyment, not to leave angry just because we lost a game or match.
IN THE END IT IS JUST FOR FUN !

As for a playing habit - Always keep your knees bent and stay low. That second it takes to go from standing straight up to getting low is the one that lets the ball pass you by!

The best habit is to watch the server's eyes. This way you can try to interpret where the serve will be going. Watch from the moment the server gets the ball, especially if the coach signals where to serve. The server almost always glances at the spot.

Best Habits... - 09-12-2007, 05:22 PM

The best habits that I try to instill in my players are...

1. Above and beyond all else is HUSTLE! Move your feet or take a seat.

2. Court presence, know where you are on the court, where you are supposed to be, and where the ball is. If more young players adhered to this there would be far less hitters and setters colliding.

**Tip O' The Day**
Butt down, ball up.

i would say, always talking out loud with your partner.
never underestimate your opponent.
3rd, during the game never put down your opponent(might end up biting you where the sun doesn't shine). dex

i agree with staying on the balls of your feet(toes) for mobility.
i also agree with moving on after an error.

Good sportsmanship. There is nothing worse than having to play alongside or against a grumply malcontent who thinks they know everything and has to complain about every play or every call that an official makes. Even worse is when said person refuses to accept the fact that they have been beaten.

Conversely, Playing with or against a great sport raises everyones enjoyment of the game. It is always great to play against respectful opponents who can accept winning or losing with dignity. Its part of the game; no one goes undefeated in their lifetime. Learn to accept losing as graciously as winning.
