Not really a rule but this has become a huge pet peeve because it has happened twice with the same player:
Never abandon your team because the other team forfeit. Use the time to run drills, scrimmage, whatever. The team all came out to play so you owe it to each other. However, after the rest of the team finishes running drills, scrimmaging whatever it's only finding that same teammate flirting with the gym staff priceless.
Theres an irony and a lesson somewhere! | | | | | | | | Rookie

Theres an irony and a lesson somewhere! | I agree, definitely use the time to run drills if you feel up to it. I really don't agree with judging teammates or feeling that they "owe it to you", or you to them. From a personal standpoint, what my temmates would rather do is up to them and none of my business.
If said person seems to be bringing the team down with shoddy play regularly, I would openly say something to said person, like suggesting doing drills with everyone to improve their game. If they decline all the time, then you know that their committment to the team is not the same as yours; and question yourself as to why you have said person on your team. | | | | | | | | Player

However, I guess what saddens me is that lie-ing became the means to that end.

Serve IN.
- Serve to the weakest link
- Don't be an ******* about it depending on situation
If someone isn't covering thier court, point it out - kindly.
- If they don't respond, steal the ball
Call for your set, let them know your ready
- For a setter, don't set someone if they arn't telling you thier ready
Call yourself - net violations, carrier, etc.
- Don't bitch about people not calling themselves, merly mention "call yourself buddy".
Let the ref make all final decisions - it sucks when the refs getting polled by 12+ people.
Play your game.
At the end of the game, it's over, leave what happened on the court - on the court.
Like the line from the pirate movie... There not really rules, just a guideline (or somehting like that). No you don't have to follow them, but it's nice if you do, and you'll find yourself enjoying the game more, and meeting more friends.
They arn't rules for a reason - you don't need to follow them. It's also not the law to be nice to people, but most people chose to be. What kind of person are you? |
tim, what's going on? i disagree totally with you on 1 of your comments. when in doubt play it out? i would rather play a ball when it might be out than not play a close ball and have it land in!!!! dex
ps, serve it to the weakest link? that's all fine and dandy tim, what if you're playing 2's team and they are both at the same level??? hubby/wife serve won't work. so where serve the ball now? i guess just alternate between partners? don't bitch about people not calling themselves? i will complain! it sucks when it's not fair. i think they wouldn't like if you started not calling yourself???

| I think it means the same thing. Play the ball and do the guaranteed thing that prevents an ace. It all depends on each person's volleyball game strategy. I sometimes play the ball knowing full well that it's out. Reputation...Pass all the easy balls and make a play to kill every set. I don't like to stand on the court and let a team beat themselves silly and lose, while I just watch all the unforced errors go on by. Then again, that depends on my mood...Sometimes you just get really lazy... | | | | | | | | Rookie

In regards to serving, if there is really no 'weaker passer' on the team I would suggest moving the ball around the court. Simply alternating opponents to serve to becomes a little predictable, and the defense will adapt. Move the ball around the court more, serve down the line, SHORT to the middle, blast one right between them. Change speeds and serve types, keep them off balance, make them move; don't serve right at them. Keep them guesssing as to which type of serve is coming and where it will be. Most importantly in 2's keep those serves IN!!! It may be nice to have a hard, difficult to return serve, but if 50% of those sail out, then it's not very effective. Make it so that if your opponent wants to win, they have to make the plays. Don't hand the game to them. | | | | | | | | Player

How about?
When in doubt, shout it out!
That way both the line judges and R1 will call the ball out in your favor, eventhough they didn't actually see it. | | | | | | | | Player
