What are the worst conditions you ever played in/had to get through to get to a game? - 03-12-2006, 10:18 PM

Playing Top Gun sand volleyball in Flagstaff AZ last July. Elevation 7000 feet. A summer monsoon rolls in. Temp drops from 70 degrees to about 45, wind, rain. We play through rain. Then small hail. We play on. Then big hail and thunder. Get off courts and under canopies. Then lightning hits about 1/4 mile away. Run for the safety of the athletic building. Finish play in light rain after lightning passes.

April 2005. Rocky Point Mexico. Day before tournament, 75 degrees, calm ocean, beautiful day on the beach. Day of tournament, 50 mph winds, maybe 60 degree temps, huge waves crashing with some even washing up part way through 3 of 12 courts.
The ultimate beach volleyball tournament just to try handling a ball.
Next day, calm sea, no waves, 75 degree temps again.

Playing til I die,
Outta Town

Not as intense as that - but I do remember jump serving in wind - as hard as i could, and not even getting the ball over the net.

When we switched sides I was only trying to his the ball about a foot and it nearly sailed out of bounds right away.

hmmm...

Playing rec volleyball on grass court in a park........played in the rain a whole bunch of times.

I remember once it down poured, but looked like it was going to pass, so we all waited under trees to see if the rain would stop, but of course, it didn't. We ended up leaving, doing to the bar, and 5 minutes later the rain stopped. Bummer.......

During the winter I was playing in my local gym and between the time I arrived and the time I left there was 14 inches of snow.... We checked into the hotel that night...

Dismal Swamp ... Just outside of Williamsburg Virginia. It's a coed 6's, 3m3w and 370 teams camping at this weekend tournament for all levels from Open to rec.

It's 70, sunny and it did rain the night before. A puddle at MB position where your feet were completely covered. Yes.. we brought sand and dirt from a camp site to fill in the hole.. which just made it worse. Then, the rain came. Of course we played with the OLD BALL. The wind and the rain soaked ball were too much for most teams. But the AA and Open teams played on. By the time finals came around it was 45 degrees and cloudy. We didn't care, because beverages were flowing. If you ever get the chance, this is 21 and up.. First weekend in May. It's an amazing experience. www.thedigs.net. Camping, food, beverages, volleyball! FUN weekend! Yes it always rains at some point. But, it's also sunny.
