So I'm at the beach playing doubles. I'm on the right side, my partner passes the serve to the net. I run up and get in position to set, but I stumble as I try to get my feet under me and I overrun the ball. I just stick my hands up and curl my fingers as my legs buckle. The ball ends up bouncing off my left palm. I figured I had hit the ball into the net or out of bounds until everyone started cheering. It had turned into a clean left-hand dink and had caught the other team unawares.

Not really embarrassing, but I did end up looking like a "special abilities child" during the play.

What is your most embarrassing moment on the court? - 03-02-2006, 08:09 PM

And I'll start this one off myself.
A few years ago I was playing indoor sixes league and had on some shorts that had large pockets on the front. Well, as you can guess, as I went up to hit, I caught my thumb in one of the pockets and ripped half the front off my shorts. Finished the games red-faced and constantly pulling my shirt down.

Playing til I die,

I never thought about that being an issue, I've got some bball shorts I play in that have pockets.... I'll be more aware of that!

OK, so my turn. It was about a year ago playing indoors. I was getting a little fired up because I had been hitting the ball well in the game. I called for the ball and I got a real nice high outside set took a real nice approach...... and completely mistimed my swing and the ball ended up bonking me in the face.

Another good one was overhand passing a pretty decent serve, we were using a pretty new avp replica ball (yea, it was indoors but it was the only good ball anyone brought to this open gym [It was too cold for my tach. to sit in the car all day]). Anywho, as you could imagine the ball slipped though my fingers and caught me square in the nose. That sucked.

Once again the masses come up with some good stories. I kind of wish I had one! haha Other than the normal (at least in my world) missing hand passes and having them fly right on through or the occasion knock on the head I am devoid of any good ones. But I can just imagine how it would play out in my case.... it would probably include exposure of parts of the female anatomy

Talking Squeaker - 03-06-2006, 07:03 PM

Well, I've done plenty of spazmo moves on the court but the time my face was reddest wasn't even me... I swear! We were playing an indoor 4's tournament and one of my guys got hurt, he called his roommate to come and fill in for him. I didn't know the new guy too well and he was definitely sandbagging playing with us, so I was a little nervous. We'd been playing a while and out of the blue he says to me, I heard that. I had no idea what he meant so I said, what? He says its ok, everybody does it. I'm still at a total loss and ask again - he says I heard you let out a squeak. Since I didn't, I was totally mortified that this guy I hardly knew thought I was passing gas on the court! Well I'm not good at hiding my emotions and my face turned bright scarlet as I kept protesting and laughing. He kept after me all day and had me laughing a lot. At the time I didn't realize that he did it to break the ice - I guess that's one way to do it. To this day when I see him he'll call me squeaker : p

My first year playing, freshman year in high school. I sat the varsity bench for all the games. I got in here and there - but it was usually to give the seniors a break or so my coach could yell/tell them something.

Sooooo... one of the seniors was getting a little aggitated on the court. My coach is yelling instructions to him, but he isn't listening. Next thing I know she's like "STRAZZ SUB! GO GOG O!" and I'm like "ohhh crap he's gunna hate me, me coach? me?" - she takes me by the hands and almost launches me on the court. The seniors staring down at me, with the "your dead" look. Next ball comes to me on the serve and I shank it, second one game - but I get it this time. Subbed back out.

I soon realised after being humiliated in front of the crowd, you only have a few seconds to actually sub. This was one of my first games ever haah.

Four years later at the banquet for our team, my coach recollects this memory turning me bright red again.

Out cold - 03-07-2006, 05:39 PM

Well I don't know how embarassing this was as I don't remember too much of it. But we were playing at MIT, and I was the libro. First hit gets by the blockers and I dug it...well it was a perfect set for the guy and he hit it right back at me. I got it a second time but managed to get my arm stuck behind me (I don't know how it happened) and I found myself falling flat on my face. So people start laughing, only thing they didn't realize right away was that I was actually knocked out. I was out for a few seconds, and woke to see the end of the play. So the guys on the bench decided they would enlighten me with how it looked while I sat for a few to make sure it wasn't nothing serious. Some of the guys offered to get a pool going and buy me a helmet, thank god they were lazy and didn't follow through.

Not me really - 03-08-2006, 10:46 AM

So last night we were playing in this open league with play being... pretty rec like. It was a fun time, the only thing that was annoying was that the back line was the wall. Well someone hit the ball to the other team, one of their players hit it and then the guy in the back row hit the ball for the second hit and somehow, he managed to hit it into the wall behind him and then quickly got six-packed by the ball bouncing off the wall. It was pretty funny.
