Who reads Volleyball mag? - 04-19-2006, 03:45 PM

ok, so, I get this magazine every month, and usually, aren't impressed. There's so much beach material it might as well be Beach Volley Mag. I dunno, being 5'6", beach volleyball and sean don't mix...can't we focus more on the hard court stuff? coaching drills, plyo drills, Mens/Womens NCAA outlook? c'mon.

Coach,
Set aside the weekend of Oct 14 to come to Phx and we'll take you to Mexico for beach volleyball. You can use that vertical of yours to impress the players there, and I guarantee you'll come away liking the coed 4's beach game.

I do not read up on volleyball, nor am I overly impressed by the pro 2's players. I would rather PLAY than watch. I would rather be part of a long amateur rally indoors or on grass, or in sand, than watching professionals pass, set, kill repeatedly.

I find the higher level players and "pro's" to be unsociable, in that they are only playing for money or for the win.

Volleyball is a very social game, even though you are trying to kill the other team while on the court.
Give me an outdoor or indoor league night where we can go for a beer afterwards, or a long day of outdoor volleyball on a weekend where you socialize, meet new friends, play some good volleyball at whatever level you might play. But do it for the love of the game.

Playing til I die,
Outta Town

I read it just to try and gleen any small peice of info to improve my game. Like coach I too would like to see more indoor and drill info. In fact the first two things I look to in the mag are the plyo bits colum and the drills.

Everything else is about beach or promoting HS players so they can get scholarships. There is very little about adult vb, or international ball.

I payed for a subcription a few months ago, some kids fund raiser and let me tell you there has been nothing of interest. Right now it's on the desk with three other issues, collecting dust. I get more out of home and garden then volleyball mag.

I just read the last issue "Olympians Annet Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan back on the beach after a one year hiatus. " on the cover. I noticed their big on sand, because their biggest advertisers are EVP/AVP and Booze. Molten and the others are not as big, and the indoor events are usually smaller, in addition to no allow liquor. It seems to me that the natural progression of a player is from indoor to beach. As if beach is the end of one's career.

Any thoughts?

Am I'm not against any players, beach or indoor - I just see it that way and wounder why.
