Ziplines - 03-02-2006, 08:21 AM

We have an outdoor court in our yard and the kids keep hitting the ball into our neighbor's yard. Does anyone have any idea where we can buy ziplines and netting that we could raise when the court is in use? I have checked the catalogs and they seem to only carry netting that goes into the ground on stakes. I am talking about going maybe 15 - 20 feet into the air by attaching pulleys, etc. to our trees, but don't want to spend a fortune on the netting.

Any ideas, anyone?

I don't have an answer for you but I have to say - you are the ultimate VolleyMom. Having a court in the yard is awesome - your kid is lucky to have such great support!

I'd just use some rope and pulleys and hang the netting by drapes. You might want to check out some sports facilities managers webpages. When I have a moment I'll see what I can dig up.

Pay a visit to Lowe's or Home Depot. Look for the orange safety netting/fencing and price it out.

Next idea: fishing netting. Weatherproof, durable, rugged.

Court netting - 03-02-2006, 08:01 PM

We have 3 courts in our back yard and just recently purchased netting from a company online I believe was in Atlanta. Website is http://www.windscreen.bigstep.com/ca...?UCIDs=1307967 .

We ordered the 440 foot long section for $442. Shipped within a week and I'm really happy with it. Box weighed only 34 pounds and was easy to unfold for hanging. They have various lengths and it comes with rope top and bottom for strength, is 10 feet tall and does not get too blown by wind since the netting is 4 inch squares.

Included is a picture looking down the fence with netting above it. I mounted 1 inch metal sleeves on the fence which have 10 foot long 3/4 inch electrical conduit with small "S" hooks on top to hang netting. This way it can be taken down when we are not playing for extended times.

Depending on how complicated you want to get there are a number of ideas. Outta town has a great set-up but it might be a bit labor intensive to you. Hmm my idea would be to put a line up from one tree to another that stays up "permanently" and then just attach/ hang the netting to that and pull it like a shower curtain over to one of the trees when you need it open. to me it sounds pretty simple and relatively practical. If you get a semi-heavy netting you probably wont need any additional weight to keep the ball on your side. The following link was just the first one that I clicked on with a yahoo search for "netting". You can do your own for others. With this it looks like it might cost somewhere around $230-$300. But definitely shop around.
