9 Man Volleyball - 05-31-2006, 09:56 AM

Not sure if anyone's ever seen this before? I know I've seen it a few times in Boston - looks crazy, a little confusing too.

They have a huge tournament that pulls teams from Boston to San Fran to Canada; This years is hosted in DC - I suggest checking it out, worth the drive. I saw some of it when it was in Boston in '04.

Here's a link to some pictures (on the bottom are actual pictures of playing).

It's funny to see a quad-block - and the courts they play on. I think I'd forget it's asfault and dive...

This is the Hindi ball right? It's amazing to watch and no fun to play, atleast for me. I could get up that high.

It's funny I've seen this type of ball played in a few different places and everyone seems to lay claim to it and theirs. I wonder what the real deal is. At least I know that plain old vanilla 6 on 6 hardcourt volleyball was started here in the US! Although it was the Japanese who brough 'Power' volleyball to us.

I wish there was some video! I think we should all get together and see if we can play this 9 person stuff. It'd be pretty entertaining I am sure.

Funky Stuff - 06-15-2006, 06:26 PM

THis is some funky stuff. 4 Blockers, lower night, No 10 foot line!!! I'd like to try this out. By the way, this is not hindi ball. I dont even think thats the name for it. This 9 on 9 at least of setting and spiking. I've seen a 8 on 8 format on that though, but that's only 7 on the court. They have a separate person serving all game.
