Reputation? - 05-16-2006, 04:37 PM

I was checking out the user control panel - and was kind of puzzled? Maybe I'm just not functioning well due to the weather, but whats this stuff all about?

Can i trade in my reputation for a freebie - or tarnish some yankee lovers reputation?

Lastly - is it one point per click?

Just me - bored... On my soapbox...

At one point I had more rep than I do now. I don't know how I lost it? I thought I was doing ok.

I like the idea of amassing rep for some kind of swag.... although glenn has been great about that kind of thing for events etc.

HMmmmmm...

Whats with the green bars? Is it something to do with the reputation?

If you hover over them - strange things are said...

One green - username is on a distingushed road.
Two green - username will be famous soon enough.
Three - username as a spectacular aura about
Four - username is a jewel in the rough.

I guess i was just a little bored and didn't wanna study...

Simply Put..... - 12-07-2006, 12:49 PM

The reputation system is a way for members to rate the quality of a users participation.

This system is entirely member driven. When someone likes what another member writes of does -- they can add to a members reputation.

Why is it needed:

As VBLI has grown there are have been a lot of posts some amazing, some silly and some just speculation, but none are unworthy. It's the opinions of those who have been member voted with the reputation system that move to the top an indexed search and allow for a better user experience.

Therefore, when you like something someone says or does on VBLI, please add to their reputation.

I hope this helps,
-Glenn

Don't forget you can disapprove what someone says too!

Thats the beauty of the system, people will take the time to yell, scream and complain but almost never say thank you. It's the people that say thank you who are the ones we want to know about.

For example: eBay, an auction was two days late and it was the P.O.'s fault. Most buyers are nice and understanding but I've seen buyers say something in the comments that it was late. Nothing to the effect of the great deal or excellent packing. Now that being said eBay is a horrible example because people live and breath on their ratings. Therefore the power of a negative comment holds a major financial weight.
