Travel this summer? - 08-23-2006, 03:02 PM

Bored at work... So I decided to map out about how much I travelled this year... Rough estimates, but man - I spent a fortune on gas.

Rhode Island 150 mi x2

Long Island 500 mi x3

Delaware 800 mi

Scotia, NY 400 mi

Winsted, CT 165 mi

Hampton, NH 60 mi x10

York, ME 120 mi x6

Soooo... add all those up and i've travelled almost 5000 mi this summer for vball related events. Anyone else think this rules as an addiction?

I'm even more bored now... So thats atleast 17 tanks of gas... At the average of about $3 a gallon (i'm estimating cheap gas...) So thats about $600 bucks in travel alone this summer. Not to mention tolls and what not.

Man - I need to play at Ipswitch park more often, either that you guys need to come to my house and play once and a while! My poor car...

Mileage! - 08-23-2006, 08:24 PM

Duh, I've played in somewhere around 30 or so tourneys in the last 12 months, usually on average 2-3 hours away....Some of the further ones were Mississauga (near Toronto, Canada) and Providence (about 5-6 hours - I went the long way) and a vbli event in Long Island (about 4 hours).

So whatever average distance of 150-200 mi. times both ways (2) times 30 equals - somewhere around 10,000 to 12,000 miles for tournaments this year.

Wow I read this post and I sound nuts! That's not counting pickups - lol Oh, and that's not counting the Al B clinic in Kent nor the Pat Powers clinic in Brooklyn (between those another 1,000 or so.) Oh yeah, I forgot about my Cortland league - that's close to 60 miles each way times 8 months, plus my women's team weekly practice for 6 months times 150 miles each way times both directions, so those are another 60 x 8 x 4 + 6 x 4 x 300 = 3,120 miles.

Ok let's just say it all adds up to maybe 16,000 miles plus. Volleyballaholics anonymous, SIGN ME UP! Maybe I should turn pro so this could be a non-reimbursable business expense - lol! Oh yeah, to be pro you have to be good! Ooops, my bad!

I dig it

California (2x) - 1,300 each time = 2,600
Vail, CO - 600 miles
Denver, CO - 600 miles
Aspen, CO - 600 miles
Albuturkey - 6 tournaments, about 40 practice sessions - x 120 = 5,520
Phoenix - 700 miles

And this was a light travel year. Need a petrol sponsor...

I can only rack up flight mileage to Long Island and Mexico twice a year. No mileage points when the tournament is in my backyard every month(except when it's 2000 degrees here).
