Beach by far - 11-24-2005, 01:25 AM

Beach Doubles you get your hands on the ball every play, sunshine, sand between your toes (and everywhere else ), a cool (or warm) breeze to give the ball a little more action. It's also a full body workout. You burn more calories and use more muscles in 6 points on the sand courts than in an entire 6-man indoor match (to 25).

I've played indoor 6's now for well over 15 years, and after making the transition to outdoor doubles (sand), I now spend all winter long playing indoor 6's while dreaming of summer's outdoor 2's. And during the summer, I find myself fretting having to go back indoors because the summer game is so much more fun... for me.

my 2 cents.

If you had a indoor sand to play 2's, 4's or even 6's at during the winter, would you rather be playing in that arena rather than hardcourt 6's. Unfortunately there's probably no place remotely close to you where you can do that though.

Beach - 11-30-2005, 06:05 PM

Gosh I love Beach (outdoor) I am new to the indoor scene and am loving the fast paced hard hitting game. Although I don't think I will like indoor beach due to the fact the wind is part of the game.. When you have a mean topspin jump serve into the wind and can land it inside the 6 feet of the net.. WOW!!!

Outdoor Beach Baby!!!!!

Ack, I wish there were places around my area to play indoor sand. There used to be two places, City Beach Santa Clara and City Beach Emeryville, but Emeryville closed, and Santa Clara removed their indoor sand courts! So, if there were indoor sand courts, I would much rather play indoor sand than indoor 6's. But that's not an option anymore

I like indoor hard court best, as it's fast & lots of power and lots of team work. I enjoy playing grass over the summer and just got into beach this year. Beach is great to learn about reading and anticipation. Definately a great way to play the game.

I voted indoor hard court given the options. But in reality I am big grass fan. The speed of the game is similar to indoor hard court but you get to be outside!! Sand can be fun except I feel like I am trying not to get too dehydrated the whole time!

Indoor - 12-02-2005, 09:22 AM

I have to say that watching beach volleyball is extrememly boring. I am a big vball fan as well as a player and seeing all the tips and roll shots etc is just not exciting. Its too easy to score on beach I think.

From a playing point of view I enjoy playing beach alot but its no where near as fun as indoor. You dont get the amazing hits or the huge blocks and the blink and youll miss it serves.

It is beginning to annoy me now when you mention volleyball to anyone they immediately think womans beach volleyball. If they want to see a peep show then there are better places to do it. If they want to have the full volleyball experience they should watch an indoor international match!

I've been playing in both indoor and beach for a little while and I noticed that after playing on the beach I got better indoor. After playing in the beach, the conditioning to your body from running and jumping in the sand made it much easier to be able to get to the ball indoor and also I'm jumping higher so I play beach to train more for the indoor games. I hated the beach cause of the wind. I'd be in position for the ball and watch the it drift past or away from me though I am getting better at adjusting for the wind though sometimes it'd shift to suddenly. I like the indoors more cause I'm able to spike more and like to be able to run more diverse plays without worrying about ball movement. Indoors 4 me!

Cool Indoor vs Outdoor - 12-04-2005, 03:03 PM

Playing both indoor and outdoor it is hard to choose. Indoor is faster and we can play year round. Love the power and speed of the game.
Outdoor is far more social and since we have 3 sand courts on our property, we can have more fun. We move to higher elevations in summer when the desert sand becomes unbearably hot.

Playing til I die,
