Blocking any hitter regardless of gender is something I think should always be done. Taking perceptive into consideration, if a guy was swinging wouldn't you block him? Why is gender a factor? I think and this is just my opinion, until you know the player regardless of gender has no power or refuses to swing, then and only then can the decision not to double block should be considered. But always block, it’s those unanticipated swings that cost the game almost all the time.

tired of made-up rules - 02-16-2007, 09:01 AM

I find this subject particulary irritating as I have to constantly get on a few of my male players to block female attackers as they feel it's 'wrong' somehow. I don't know where this concept come from that somehow women, regardless of how hard they hit, should get free shots. During a game we had two weeks ago, one of my male players blocked a female, and the other team made comments about how crappy that is. Something like 'well, if he wants to block a female then.'..etc etc. ridiculous.

If a player isn't going to hit the ball and just do roll shots that I'm going to get tooled on, I'd rather pull off the net and pass (as badly as I pass!) and give our offense a chance to set up instead of blocking a weakly hit ball softly back to the other side of the net so that their offense can run again and feed the ball to a harder hitter.

Granted, there are a lot of women who fall into this category, there are a lot of guys I won't block either.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

I block women all the time, of course I am a woman soo... I personally want guys to go up and block against me. Since I play in mostly co-ed leagues throughout the week I am usually up against men on the other side of the net. So, if the guys aren't blocking me then I am losing a chance to learn how to tool or hit around the block. Then when I get on a women's net with blockers I would be getting stuffed all the time.

As it has been said. If the hitter, regardless of gender, can hit, then you better be blocking. I'm an equal opportunity blocker.

I'm with Glenn, if the attacker is hitting then they should be blocked. No preference to gender. There are alot of women players regardless of net height that outhit alot of men I play with. Better get your hands up against them or your defense is going to eat it.

At first I voted that it depended on the player, but now that I think about it, you won't get better at hitting or blocking if you don't go up against anyone. In the long run, it's all about who plays smarter and gives their team the advantage because of it...

Why give someone a free shot? If someone hits well, it needs to be contested whether the hitter is male or female. Don't assume that because someone is female that they can't put one away.
