What kind of serves do you have in your arsenal?

just to clarify...
hook sidespins from your strong side to your weak side
slice sidespins from your weak side to your strong side

Depending on whether I'm indoor or outdoor and what situation I'm in, I'll change up my serve type to keep their team on their toes and hopefully keep them out of rhythm.

There is this one older guy who plays grass tourneys in CT who uses a NASTY kick serve. I swear the thing hangs forever. Next time I do a tourney and he is there I am going to time it.

Floating spinner! LOL's silly curve ball that floats too.

barrell roll! It depends on the type of ball. Can't do it with most ball and success ratio is luck.

Is that like a gyro ball?

I don't know about a gyro ball? I thought those were a myth or an exercise ball.

A barrell roll like when an airplane barrel roll. Happens when a pitcher (screwball) knuckle's and spins the ball. In other word's it like a football spinning wounded duck but since the ball is round and stuff, the magnus and bernouli effects are enacted and it's possible to barrell roll the ball or screwball. It's a barrell roll becuase the ball never comes back up like a screwball in theory. You can achieve it with a volleyball becuase it's bigger and run's into more air resistance, but rarely would it ever land in the court even if you do achieve the effect. Just the same in how a volleyball can spin but yet exhibit a wobbly effect.

I serve a mean ball into the net. It's gets the other team a point every time!

FYI, only a woman confident in her serving abilites would be willing to say that. LOL

7 serves - 04-22-2007, 02:01 PM

My Serving Arsenal:

Greek Method: One step to the right, one pump, underhand hit. I usually say "HIBACHI!" when I hit the ball
EFFECTIVENESS: 9 out of 10

"The Hawaiian Punch" - Toss the ball up in the air and smack the ball with a punch.
EFFECTIVENESS: 5 out of 10 (Still at work with it)

The Original Overhand Toss and hit - Duhhhhhhhhh
EFFECTIVENESS: 7 out of 10

-----

My serving accuracy is still very high.

My underhand serve was so effective that i didn't learn how to overhand serve until 9th grade. usually it would go over the net and then suddenly drop. i scored a lot of aces on that in middle school.lol

now I use floaters and topspins the most. I think that people have more of a problem with my floaters.
I also put a nasty side spin on it on occasion. It is highly effective, except lately its been going out (to the side).

I've just recently been practicing jump serves, im actually better at jump floaters, then regular jump serves. weird.

what can i say, I love serving. this school season I went six matches without missing a serve, and eight matches only missing one.

you... block me? I don't think so!
she hit the floor she hit the floor, next thing ya know shawty(all 5'11 lol) got low low low low....

depends on the situation - 01-07-2008, 11:37 PM

Hi im chris and new to the site.

I used to jump everytime no matter what the situation. As I have aged i try to pick my spots. Sometimes its more effective to just hit a week passer with a floater. plus the floater at the end of a match can really freeze a tired opponent. The hook I save for outdoors when the wind is really blowing crosscourt.

Hope these tips help

Chris
