Wink Qualifiers take note: AVP Fashion Police - 03-18-2006, 10:25 AM

I had heard this, but wasn't sure it was true - here it is straight from the AVP Player Registration page:

--APPAREL GUIDELINES: All qualifier participants must be in matching apparel. Specifically, all playing partners are required to wear the same color swimwear. This means the same color shorts for the men and the same color suits for the women. The apparel can be different in design and can be from any manufacturer but must be the same color. Please remember in the case of patterned swimwear, all colors in the pattern must match your partner. Players who do not adhere to this guideline will forfeit their match.

I'm wondering if the AVP is looking to sell more board shorts and bathing suits this season, or what? I can see this for saturday play, but I wonder if it appllies to thursday/fridays also. Seems kind of strict when a lot of these guys/girls are doing the best they can to just get to events and play qualifiers. Between traveling expenses and tournament costs, now they have to coordinate their attire?

If you are playing for the big bucks, you can pop for a $25 pair of shorts in the same color as your partner.
It might be tougher if they required them to be exactly the same color, style and pattern, since partners may not live in the same areas and have the same apparel available to them. Who would buy them for their partner and know their exact sizing?

I'm sure this is just for TV viewing anyway, so viewers can tell who is on the same team when cameras are following tight on one person at a time.

I expect to see alot of the latest Wal-Mart swimwear on tour. Or a universal agreement on the colors black, red, blue, and brown.

Hey Glenn,
Don't pass up this opportunity.................get those VBLI shorts on the list as the only shorts and suits the players can wear. In fact, get out there and shoot some wadded up VBLI shirts into the crowds with a slingshot.

100 bucks. - 03-21-2006, 06:59 PM

I can tell you first hand that if you are playing in the qualifier on friday the odds are that you arent going to be playing for any bucks, let alone big bucks. But it does cost you 100$ to register. The matching shorts thing is dumb, and it didnt apply last year. Sorry to hear that they implimented it this year.
