Hello All,
The Men's Hits Program is holding tryouts for both its Advanced and Intermediate levels Thursday night (December 1) 7-9pm (Doors open at 6:30 for warming up) at Waltham Highschool (Directions can be found at www.walthamhits.com)
For those unfamiliar with the program, it is one of the only individual training programs around and not only will you get a great workout but also give you a focused enviroment in which to work on specific skills.
Here are some more specifics what to expect if you decide to join the Hits Program:
Upper Level Players to test skills against: We have 5-6 B+ and A- Guys who come every week ready to block, ace, hit, tool and dig whatever you bring at them.
Individual instruction: Sometimes what is best for the team isn't always what is best for a player, middles only practice middle etc... At hits, if you put in the effort and give your all in the drills, you will all become better all around players and in turn that will improve your how you do personally at tournaments, and how your team does as a result.
Footwork: Offensive and defensive footwork is one of the most important and often overlooked part of playing the game. At hits focus is put on proper footwork in passing, blocking, defence, blocking and hitting.
Reading: Regardless of your level of play reading what is going to happen before it happens is key. At hits we'll help you learn to pick up on the tendancy's of other players/teams and learn how to use them to your advantatge.
Volleyball Strategies: In the last couple sessions I've tried to focus on two things when it comes to strategies, how what one indivual does affects the outcome of the play/match in addition to how creating team strategies can change the outcome of a match against a tougher opponent.
Workout: 2 hours of good volleyball
Facilities: Some of the best around, lots of open space around the courts, great wood floors, good lighting. We can use good balls though so if you have a molten please bring it.
As for the drills, I think this breakdown explains it well:
20% passing
25% digging
25% Blocking
30% hitting
Setting is touched upon as well, but thats usually more one on one for the setters in the group.
The focus of everything though is footwork, reading, and technique.
If you have any questions please feel free to let me know,
Tom @ tjnatt@yahoo.com
