I have not done any Yankee clinics before but I would be willing. This sounds interesting and I am sure that I can learn something. Then we can always post back here and let the rest of teh community know how they are. For $10 it'll be worth it, even with the 2hr drive. I'll definitely look into signing up.

I don't think anyone has, they are new this year. One of Jonah's many ideas for improving Yankee (discussed the last two meetings).

Do you have any more details on it? $10 for 2.5 hours is awesome. Of course the 3-4 hours of driving roundtrip makes it less attractive. Road trip anyone?

I believe the clinic will be going over the very basics some more intermediate things... Geared for C- to C+'s (but not excluse)

The yankee board will be there mostly I'm sure, not sure who else. Plenty of good guys/gals to teach you some things - should be worth the time too.

After the enxt yank meeting (3rd) I should have more info...

Back to Basics? (A.K.A. Yankee Clinic) - 03-12-2007, 01:59 PM

I don't consider myself a bad vball player. What I do consider myself is very very raw. I never played in college. I never played in High School.

This past Sunday, that changed. For $10, I took my sleepy, tired, worn out self (side note: I had a tournament on Saturday followed by seeing The 300 at 9:50 and suffered from DST) up to Lasalle college to attend the Yankee Skills Clinic.

The staff was composed of 5 coaches and players who covered all positions of the sport. They were both knowledgeable and friendly and provided gobs of one on one teaching. They used the tell, me show me, let me do training model where the tell you the skill you're going to learn, demonstrate it, and then make you do it. We covered things as simple as footwork, passing, digging, and hitting and then progressed to more complicated skills like blocking and transition hitting where we had to take multiple skills and tie them together.

At the end of the 150 minutes, most attendees not only had learned a few new things, but they were covered with sweat which was a pretty good feat since the gym wasn't really all that warm.

I'm happy to have gone and can't wait to try a few things but I'm also nervouse because doing things "the right way" doesn't always feel natural the first few times you do it. It may end up being an initial take 2 steps backward to take 3 steps forward.

In any event, I'm happy I went and look forward to future clinics.

(If anyone is interested in getting any more skills, drills, etc.,.. info, see this web page TW's Volleyball Files. It was put together by Tom Wilson who headed up the clinic.)

Yes,

I attended the clinic as well. I found it very useful and helpful. It is nice actually getting coached by someone! Not having played in High School or College, that is always a special treat. Can't wait to be able to go to another!
