I don't consider myself a bad vball player. What I do consider myself is very very raw. I never played in college. I never played in High School.

This past Sunday, that changed. For $10, I took my sleepy, tired, worn out self (side note: I had a tournament on Saturday followed by seeing
The 300 at 9:50 and suffered from DST) up to Lasalle college to attend the Yankee Skills Clinic.
The staff was composed of 5 coaches and players who covered all positions of the sport. They were both knowledgeable and friendly and provided gobs of one on one teaching. They used the tell, me show me, let me do training model where the tell you the skill you're going to learn, demonstrate it, and then make you do it. We covered things as simple as footwork, passing, digging, and hitting and then progressed to more complicated skills like blocking and transition hitting where we had to take multiple skills and tie them together.
At the end of the 150 minutes, most attendees not only had learned a few new things, but they were covered with sweat which was a pretty good feat since the gym wasn't really all that warm.
I'm happy to have gone and can't wait to try a few things but I'm also nervouse because doing things "the right way" doesn't always feel natural the first few times you do it. It may end up being an initial take 2 steps backward to take 3 steps forward.
In any event, I'm happy I went and look forward to future clinics.
(If anyone is interested in getting any more skills, drills, etc.,.. info, see this web page
TW's Volleyball Files. It was put together by Tom Wilson who headed up the clinic.)
