Play in the State College Regional Begins Friday!
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., Dec. 5, 2005 – On Friday, December 9 at 4 p.m. in Rec
Hall, #6 Hawaii matches up with #8 Missouri. Immediately following, #2 Penn
State takes on #17 Tennessee for the right to play in the regional final. On
Saturday, Dec. 10, the winners play for a berth in the National Semifinals
in San Antonio, Texas.

Rec Hall last hosted an NCAA Women’s Volleyball Regional Championship in
1999, the same year the squad captured the NCAA National Title with a
three-game defeat of Stanford. That team also claimed the Big Ten title in
1999 with an undefeated 20-0 conference mark, just the fifth time since 1985
that the conference champion had gone undefeated.
The Penn State women’s volleyball team is currently ranked second in the
country closed out the Big Ten season undefeated with a 20-0 record to claim
its third consecutive Big Ten title and ninth in 15 years. The Nittany Lions
are one of three teams to advance to every NCAA Tournament since its
inception in 1981, a streak of 25 consecutive years.
Penn State joins the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb., and the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln, Maples Pavilion and Stanford University and the G. Rollie
White Coliseum and Texas A&M University as the four pre-determined sites for
the 2005 NCAA Women's Volleyball Regional Championships.
The 2005 NCAA Championship will be held in San Antonio, Texas, at the
Alamodome on Dec. 15 and 17. The 2006 Championship will be held in Omaha,
Neb., at the Qwest Center and Arena on Dec. 14 and 16. The 2007 Championship
will be held in Sacramento, Calif., at ARCO Arena on Dec. 13 and 15.
