HNU Wins Opens First Season with Victory - 01-14-2006, 02:08 PM

The Holy Names University Men's Volleyball team won their first official match with a 3-2 (30-21, 22-30, 32-30, 17-30, 19-17) victory over D-III opponent Stevens Institute of Technology (1-1) last night. The HNU Hawks (1-0), a first-year NAIA program, battled their way to a victory, fighting off 2 match points in the fifth game before scoring the victory on an Erik Joller kill (18-7-36, .306). Opposite Kevin McColloch led all hitters with 22 kills (22-7-44, .341). Freshman Setter Treston Yasso dished out 55 assists, and Libero Riley Tang and Outside Hitter Tyler Janssen (7-5-20,..100) recorded 9 and 11 digs, respectively. The Hawks will next play Medaille College (Buffalo, NY), another D-III opponent, on Wednesday, January 11. Match time is scheduled for 7 P.M. in Tobin Gym on the campus of Holy Names University (www.hnu.edu).
