Hi VBS,
I'm from Chicago, but I didn't discover volleyball until I moved down to Dallas. What is the beach VB scene like in Chicago? Are there any places to play pick up games? I'll be back in August for the air and water show and would love to get some games in while I'm home.
North Avenue Beach is where it's all at. During the Air and Water Show weekend, it tends to move towards Oak St. Beach and Montrose due to the poles being down for the Air Show. Some people will also go to Fullerton Beach that weekend, too.
Generally though... the better players are at North Avenue Beach closest to the boathouse. The farther from the boathouse, the worse the players are... usually. Fullerton and Oak St. Beaches have a lot of BB/B level players. Montrose will have the Master's crowd ( men over 35/women over 30 ) and a lot of foreigners... mostly European and such.
People always tell me that there is absolutely no place like Chicago's North Avenue Beach when it comes to beach volleyball, though. They always look in awe when they come by.
